>> kron4 shows you how the police are making sure that everyone has a safe fourth of july holiday. why the former first couple of california are calling it quits to their marriage. now we will show you how much you can save when you spend. carpool confusion, the new law that is supposed to take affect and why there was a mixup about when to enforce it. >> tonight at 8:00 p.m. the hot fourth of july holiday weekend great for outdoor celebration but also reasons to be careful when the temperature is it is hot. >> they will get even hotter as we head into the weekend definitely do not play around for fireworks, it will be too hot for that just go watch the show. a look at the high temperatures from today. we hit the '90s along the inland valleys. and 90 through the north bay. half moon bay should not say 92, it was actually in the mid 60s today. but down toward south bay temperatures in the upper 80s. 86 hayward, temperatures were up quite a bit over what we saw yesterday in a few places. ticket detained over the past 24 hours. a 11 degrees warmer in hayward, 10 degrees warmer in livermore. we will continue that into tomorrow. the inland valleys are in the upper 80s, 80 degrees in san jose, 61

along the coastline. nice conditions this evening. take a look at what we expect tomorrow. clear and warm conditions for the morning. we will warmup for the afternoon, it will be even more tomorrow than what we saw today we will take it with debt that in just a little bit. >> with the hot weather expected there is a strong warning coming from firefighters and police. they say that if you set off illegal fireworks, you will pay for it. fireworks are not illegal in most bay area cities and the officers are in pursuit of those that choose to break the rules. j.r. stone is following the story, he shows we can light up and where you cannot. it >> many of you are enjoying the holiday weekend but be careful the police are out about looking for those who intentionally set off fireworks. has to concede, there are only just five cities where fireworks are allowed. we have some hints

drinking and driving. we are live in san senses go with charles clifford. >> this is a live picture of lombard street in san francisco. traffic has been pretty steady. starting tonight and running through monday the census police department who have added patrol, and set up at least one, maybe more d y checkpoints to stop people from drinking and driving. law enforcement agencies all the bay area will be out in force of this weekend. >> sobriety checkpoints are planned for san francisco, san jose, oakland, hayward, livermore, sonoma county, and moderate county. all those are just the ones that we know about. law-enforcement try to give specific details about where it will be or win. they can expect situation- saturation-0 patrol in several counties. there will

be increased police presence in mountain view, palo alto, milpitas and san clara. no matter where you live, if you plan on driving expect to see police presence on the roadway. other law-enforcement agencies are asking anyone that is thinking of drinking to plan ahead. find a designated driver, call a friend, to a cap, or a bus home. they say if you see a drunk driver to report them by calling 911. >> back live now, it is a little after 8:00 p.m.. we have not heard of any dui checkpoints that have started yet, but we do expect them to start up in the next couple of hours. >> a lot of people are headed out to the bay area of the recreational waterways. park rangers and police will be out on the lakes and the reservoir to make sure that everything goes smoothly. jeff bush continues our coverage, he was out at the reservoir to find out what violations the

police will be looking for this weekend. >> it is topped off with all the water and rain this weekend. park officials tell us that more than 30,000 fish have been put in this year. they are expecting a record turnout for the fourth of july weekend in addition to the warm weather, they are offering free fishing for anyone that wants to come out this saturday. >> you do that the the california license or the fishing permits, you just pay the entry fee. >> there will be a lot of people on the water and on the shoreline. rangers and the park police will patrol the area heavily. >> no drinking and driving just like in the car, you can get a you why. 0.08. >> excessive speed and boating out of bounds is also a precaution. they want to make sure everyone understands the other things as well, the water is used for drinking supplies of

and bright and shark. it is a different type of tablet that does not run on the google and floyd operating system. it runs on oalm and troy--os system. if so good in the hand. it is slightly heavier than the ipad room2 a and it is thinner. it is great news, it uses a cart-- card system, the applications are represented by cards that you can move around or stacked on top of each other. it is $500 the same price as ipad2. but they're working with at&t to offer a date a plan that will come out later. the battery runs a little less than the ipad, one thing you can buy is the touchstone charging document and place the tablet on it and it will start charging you and i have to plug in any cables, unlike the ipad and the other tabloids, this does

hotel maid is no longer under house arrest. a judge keys to his bill restrictions with the prosecution's agreement. new credibility issues have arisen about the woman that is accusing him of sexual assault, she is committed to lying in front of the grandeur rate. in the casey anthony murder trial--she admitted to lying in front of the grand jury. now in the casey anthony murder trial, she was accused of murdering her child back in 2008 by suffocating her with duct tape. now this is used to be a house in georgia, but now it is a pile of rubble. three people were inside this home when an explosion ripped it apart. they were rushed to the hospital and their three dogs are missing. they say this must be the result of a gas leak, the family recently did renovations. it power plant in north texas

was imploded today. it crashed to the ground in a cloud of smoke. the company says that almost all of the steel copper and all the equipment from the plant will be recycled. in new orleans, a honda civic landed upside down on top of a 12 ft. bus stop building. the driver was killed, they believe that the driver may have been fatigued and speeding and hit the curb. the vehicle then hit a sign, bounce, flip on the grass and then wound up on the top of the building. parol royal newlyweds have officially started their trip to north america. coming up we will show you the scene as a kid in william tour ontario and quebec. that is just ahead but of course they will have their trip to california.

your extended forecast coming up at the end of the show. >> a bart and muni are no longer getting the high- speed rail money that they were counting on from the state. governor brown use his veto to block this and others across california from getting the money as he tried to cut the budget the governor felt that the funding was unnecessary. muni was expecting to receive $27 million for its subway project. the transportation agency says that the project will continue and the state money was a small portion of what is needed for the $1.6 billion project. bart says that it was one to use the $35 million from the state to replace the aging rail cars. bart spokesman says that the agency has been using the cars since the system first opened back in 1972. madam >> that money is supposed to help those getting off the high-speed rail train in getting on to bart. well, when the high-speed rail gets built, we need to be able to carry the excess

passengers that we were not ordinarily expecting. so we are using the money to be able to replace our trains. >> both agencies are expected to meet the governor to help change his mind. in the meantime they say they may have to look for other funding sources. california consumers are getting a break at the cash register. starting today, the statewide sales tax is going down by 1 percent. the expiring tax hike from 2009 is the reason. we explain how saving a penny on every dollar can add up. >> with the california 1 percent tax stopped kicking in friday, statewide, the cells%--the state's sales percentage will be 7% to 9.25%. now the average couple coffee at starbucks may run about $3 for a savings of 35. if you go three-time to a week for a year, that is a savings of 468. now take the hdtv. if

new laws and regulations are going into effect. one of the changes that drivers will notice if the yellow clean year vehicle decal is expiring but exactly when they are expiring is creating confusion. >> the car pool confusion started early friday morning. >> the yellow stickers that were issued for the hybrid vehicles starting back in 2005 are now expired as of june 31st. i am sorry, june 32, 2011. it is >> we were alone with the chp officer when he began to enforce the new rule. before we know it, he pulled over this hybrid for driving in the carpool lane. >> there is no grace period with this, notifications happened initially at the beginning of may, the dmz is mailed out letters to those who had the yellow sticker and we believe they are aware. >> a ticket was not issued but the driver says that the letter said something different.

>> it said that it was through today, july 1st i thought it would be cleared through today i assume that they will be the last day. >> to complicate matters more, the letter indicates to different dates. it says of effective july 1st, but the next sentence reads after july 1st. if you look on the california state air resources website, and alert says that the decal for hybrid vehicles will expire and not be valid after july 1, 2011. since this is july 1, 2011, we can drive with a yellow sticker on friday is officially murky. >> the bottom line is that the law will go into effect on friday. enforcement will not go to school effect until tuesday july 5th after the holiday. i'm grant lotus with kron4 news. >> one day after 67 police officers were laid off because of budget cuts in san jose, it is now the fire

departments turn to make do with less. the so-called rolling brownouts will mean fewer engines and resources. fire engines like this one in various ones across the state will be pulled from active duty. rob fladeboe explains how this works. >> i am at fire station no. 9 in san jose it is in the south-central san jose, one of two fire stations across the city that is affected by the so-called rolling brownouts. what does that mean? it means on most days, station no. 9 has a fire truck, that is the one behind me when the latter. how did it has a fire engine on duty at all times. today, this one is out of service, the fire engine along with the engine as fire station no. 29 in north san jose. normally there would be nine firefighters on duty, today

there are only four. the others are scattered throughout the city as needed. if there were to be a fire in this particular district because of the rolling brownouts that means a fire engine from another station would have to cover this duty. presumably leaving the district and the more tense. and the number of fire fighters manning a truck like that will be cut from five down to four. that is a way to save over time to up the city balance the budget. all this is coming just as the weather and fire danger are heating up. in san jose, rob fladeboe was kron4 news. >> one fire station covering for a another and fewer resources may mean longer fire response times. >> we expect a response times to increase. we hope that we will nicaean increase in fire loss, but i think it is possible. we hope that we do not see diminished patient outcomes,

but we do think it is possible. we want the citizens and to access and nine on as soon as possible so we could minimize the response time. >> fire stations nearest to wildlife areas--while fire areas are exempt, and the program could be temporarily suspended in extra hot weather such as this weekend. that decision will be made on a day-to-day basis, but the good news is that there is a federal grant money on the way that will restore the jobs of the 49 firefighters laid off last year that is what led to the brownout plan. now another news around the bay, a convenience store robbery in oakland caught on tape. it happened may 4th at the market on mountain boulevard. police said three armed men entered the store and demanded money. one of the suspects were behind the counter withdrew cash and ran out the score, the three suspects were seen leaving in a 1999, or a 2000 dark blue sheet cherokee. and

antioch woman that tortured and killed her foster daughter has been found sane. shameeka davis was arrested back in 2008 for the severe abuse of her niece and jasmine. they convicted davis of first- degree murder and today they determine that she was sane when she determined-- committed the crime. she faces up to two life sentences. will be back after the break. ♪
